How do I use an AT&T phone internationally?
Most phones offered by AT&T have built-in frequencies and features that allow them to work effectively when traveling overseas to other countries. To use your AT&T cell phone overseas, you must activate roaming on your cell phone account, which will allow you to connect to cell towers in overseas destinations. If you don’t want to activate roaming or want to pay extra for calls, messages, and data, contact AT&T to unlock your phone so you can use international roaming. .
Find out if your AT&T phone will work in the country you’re traveling to.
To check your phone’s capabilities in other countries, visit the AT&T Guidelines website listed in the Resources section of this article. If you do not have Internet access, please call AT&T International Customer Service at 1-800-331-0500.
Select the continent and country you want to go to and click the Continue button.
Select the make and model of your AT&T phone, then click Continue.
Check if your phone supports voice and data services in the country you’re traveling to. Voice services include phone calls and text messages. Data services include e-mail and an internet connection.
If your AT&T phone isn’t available in the country you’re traveling to, consider upgrading your phone model or renting it when you arrive at your overseas destination.
Check international roaming rates and rates for the country you’re traveling to.
Click the Details link in the Fare and Coverage column to view the fares for the country you are visiting. Voice calling prices vary by country. However, no matter where you travel, there are fixed messaging and data rates.
Each outgoing text message costs 50 cents (€0.36) and each outgoing photo and video message costs $1.30 (€0.94).
The data service costs 1.95 cents per kilobyte, or $19.50 per megabyte (about 15 euros); in Canada, it costs 1.5 cents per kilobyte ($15 per megabyte).
